What is Flyball?

That is what many people ask when we mention that Kohl is on a Flyball team.

Well fly ball is a like a relay race for dogs. There are four jumps  set up, at the end of those four jumps is a box . In the box are tennis balls . The dogs must jump over the jumps, up to the box, hits the box with their front paws which triggers a mechanism that shoots out a tennis ball. The dog must catch the ball while making his turn to run back through the same four jumps back to where the dog started . At this point the next dog is waiting to go with the dogs handler. Once the first dog is almost back from his return run the handler must time their dogs release to try to make a perfect pass at the timing light which is set up just before the first jump. The race is timed from the time the first dog runs towards the first jump, starting the clock, jumping all four jumps, hitting the ball box, catching the ball on the turn, then running back through the same four jumps back to the starting line . There are four dogs per team and each dog runs once per race. the clock stops after the last dog crosses the finish line.

In a tournament situation there are two lanes set up to run two teams at once. This also creates a competitive atmosphere not only for the spectators, but for the dogs as well . It is amazing how excited the dogs get just before the race. If you ever get the opportunity to see a Flyball race by all means check it out you won't regret it.

Armstong Fire Department Hospitality Filling Hot tub Gravity fed fillup OK! Open it up !
First day setting up camp next to the Agriplex presented a problem . The Pacesetters Flyball team  was unable to fill their portable hot tub because the water on the grounds, hadn't been turned on yet for the year. However a trip to the local fire hall solved the problem. The kind people at the Armstrong fire hall brought over one of their trucks and filled the hot tub.
